The Department of Geography of Katwa college was initiated in 1987 for general course. Honours course started in 2005 on the self finance basis. Presently, courses offered by the department include B.A Honours & General ( 3 year, CBCS), 4 Year & 3 year Geography Major & Minor (NEP). At present department is running with six full time faculty members ( two assistant professor & four state aided college teacher).
To achieve excellence through imparting quality education and skill in Geography that can serve the society adopting the changing versatility of job and research opportunities.
To foster professional ethics and responsibilities for the organization, society and environment.
To prepare the students ready for job through enhancing the skill of Geoinformatics and data analysis and hands on training.
To enrich the existing curriculum through extension lectures by eminent scholars, faculty exchange programme.
To adequately address and assess the special needs of backward students through remedial programme.
Enthusiastic and dedicated teachers.
Active participation of students in classes, co curricular activities, and their obedience.
Alumni take special classes and participate in departmental activities.
Insufficiency of computers in the GIS Laboratory.
Most students come from remote areas with poor financial backgrounds & not eager to continue studying because of economic problems.
Have the scope to enhance students’ skills through skill-building programme in RS & GIS, Cartography
& data analysis by offering Add-on courses, and Certificate courses.

Keeping Up with regularly updating curriculum to stay relevant with the evolving job market and advancements in the field of Geography.
To impart the best education within limited resources (books and computers).
FUTUREPLAN
To convert the Departmental magazine ‘Bhugolika’ into a student-oriented ISBN-edited volume.
To train students in the field of GIS through workshops, training courses, certificate courses, and add-on courses and prepare them for jobs.
